Dr. Julian W. März and Prof. Nikola Biller-Andorno (IBME) are currently leading the development of a new WHO curriculum in AI ethics, which will complement the WHO course "Ethics and Governance of Artificial Intelligence for Health” published on openWHO.org in 2021. The primary objective of the curriculum is to provide guidance on how to incorporate ethical considerations and effective governance into the process of designing, developing, and deploying artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for healthcare purposes. It employs a case-study-centered approach to demonstrate the practical integration of AI ethics and governance. The first case study (planned to be published in mid-2024) revolves around the potential of AI-driven technology to enhance accessibility to cervical cancer screening within resource-constrained environments. The second case study (planned to be published in late 2024) addresses the topic of AI-enabled drug discovery for rare diseases, with a focus on spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).
