New Publication: «Navigating the future of clinical trial management – insights on the transformative role of AI»

The study by Lara Bernasconi and Regina Grossmann sheds light on the experiences and attitudes of clinical research professionals towards AI-powered tools in clinical trial management. This survey-based research engaged professionals, primarily from Swiss academic institutions, to explore their views on nine specific use cases of AI tools, along with their ethical considerations and institutional experiences. The findings reveal a mix of optimism and skepticism: while many participants recognized the potential benefits of AI, concerns about regulatory opacity, ethical compliance, and insufficient training emerged as significant barriers to adoption. Moreover, participants highlighted the importance of transparent AI governance, independent certification of tools, and patient awareness about their usage. This study marks the first empirical analysis of professionals’ perspectives on AI in clinical trial management and emphasizes the urgent need for clear regulations, stakeholder engagement, and structured training programs. By addressing these challenges, institutions and policymakers can pave the way for the responsible and effective integration of AI in clinical research.
