Ongoing Projects

  • "Opt Out" Organ Donation in the UK: This project is a long-term research interest, providing a comprehensive analysis of the move to so-called "opt out" organ donation throughout the UK (and the Crown Dependencies). In addition to a series of journal articles, this work is the focus of a forthcoming book with Oxford University Press.

  • Best Interests and Rotten Compromise (funded by the Institute of Medical Ethics): This project is examining the nature and prevalence of compromise in the context of best interests decision making.

  • Best Interests in Renal Dialysis (funded by Kidney Research UK): This project builds on earlier work and is concerned with the development of training and resources to support kidney care decision making for patients with cognitive impairments.

  • Routledge Handbook of Empirical Bioethics: Alongside several colleagues, I am editing the forthcoming Routledge Handbook of Empirical Bioethics. It will be the first comprehensive, practical guide to empirical bioethics, with contributions from a range of international experts.

  • Elgar Research Handbook on Organ Donation, Transplantation, and the Law: Alongside Dr Neera Bhatia (Deakin University, Australia), I am editing this collection on the current regulatory landscape concerning organ donation and transplantation. Championing an international and comparative focus, this Handbook brings together contributors from across the globe.
