Short Bio

Melissa Pisteljic has completed her biochemist training at the University of Zurich with a Bachelor's degree (Computational Structural Biology Thesis in the group of Prof. Dr. Amedeo Caflisch) and a Master's degree (Biochemistry and Chronobiology Thesis in the group of the late Prof. Dr. Steven Brown) from 2018 until 2023. She then joined a research project at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in the Department of Traffic Medicine until Summer 2024. During her biochemistry studies and beyond, she became active as a tutor at the Faculty of Science in multiple courses and as a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zurich in the lecture series "Sex and Gender in Medicine, Transgender: Social perspectives and clinics with current hormone replacement therapy". Besides the latter mentioned lecturer activity, she is further lecturing in the continued education module "genderdiversity" of the CAS in Sex- and Gender-Specific Medicine at the Universities of Zurich and Bern. Melissa Pisteljic joins the IBME by February 2025 to research with Prof. Dr. med. Tanja Krones and other associates in depth on the needs and experiences of transgender people (TGP), peer supporters, and health care professionals regarding reproductive health topics in Switzerland and link these results obtained through open interviews to previously conducted surveys.
