Bridging Ethics and Policy: Giovanni Spitale’s Visiting Period in Oslo Supported by GRC Travel Grant

Giovanni Spitale, a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Biomedical Ethics and History of Medicine (IBME), is embarking on an exciting visiting period at the Centre for Medical Ethics in Oslo. Supported by a travel grant from UZH’s Graduate Campus, this five-month project aims to deepen understanding of how ethicists engage at the science-policy interface.

During his stay, Giovanni will collaborate closely with Kristine Bærøe, Professor at the University of Oslo's Centre for Medical Ethics and Secretary General of the European Association of Centres of Medical Ethics (EACME). This partnership will explore translational ethics and its potential to bridge gaps between scientific research and policy-making.

The project will include a literature review and a survey of ethicists, gathering data on their perspectives and experiences with science-policy engagement. The findings will inform a reflective analysis of opportunities and barriers in the field, ultimately contributing to the development of practical toolkits for ethicists seeking to navigate the complex terrain of policy impact.

This visiting period will not only foster knowledge exchange but also strengthen collaborations between ethics scholars across borders.
