Dr. Giovanni Spitale and Dr. Federico Germani present at Hannover Symposium on Digital Bioethics

Dr. Giovanni Spitale and Dr. Federico Germani are representing our Institute at the Hannover Symposium on Digital Bioethics. This event, organized by Medizinische Hochschule Hannover (MHH) and funded by Volkswagen Stiftung, highlights the evolving intersection of bioethics and digital technology, focusing on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence.

Originally grounded in philosophical approaches, bioethics has expanded its methodology by incorporating empirical social research and responding to the ethical challenges posed by new technologies. The integration of AI marks a new methodological chapter, introducing computational dimensions to bioethics that promise to revolutionize ethical analysis and decision-making (more).

The symposium aims to understand this transformation by focusing on three key objectives: identifying new methodological competencies for bioethicists, exploring promising applications within bioethics, and developing innovative methodological approaches. This event gathers a diverse group of young and experienced experts, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue through workshops, discussions, and practical exercises.

Dr. Spitale will lead a methodological world cafe titled "Large Language Models at the Crossroads of Life, Death, and Data in Assisted Suicide Cases," which explores the use of large language models  in generating assisted suicide case reports. For more details on his presentation, visit here.

Additionally, Dr. Spitale and Dr. Germani will co-present a session titled "Large Language Models’ Impact on the Disinformation Ecosystem: Information Quality, Infodemics, and Public Health." This session will delve into their recent work on AI and disinformation. More information about their session can be found here.

The Hannover Symposium on Digital Bioethics is a significant platform for advancing the field of bioethics through innovative digital methodologies. We are excited about the contributions of Dr. Spitale and Dr. Germani and look forward to the collaborative opportunities this symposium will foster.
